20 Seconds…Seems Like a Long, Long Time

Hand washing for a third of a minute can feel like a long time, especially when you’re doing something as boring as washing your hands. Here’s what that looks like in print…

One Mississippi…Two Mississippi…Thee Mississippi… Four Mississippi… Five Mississippi… Six Mississippi… Seven Mississippi… Eight Mississippi… Nine Mississippi… Ten Mississippi… Eleven Mississippi… Twelve Mississippi… Thirteen Mississippi… Fourteen Mississippi… Fifteen Mississippi… Sixteen Mississippi… Seventeen Mississippi… Eighteen Mississippi… Nineteen Mississippi… Twenty Mississippi…

You could try singing the Happy Birthday Song to yourself…twice…as the CDC recommends… Little known fact…the Happy Birthday Song is awful. No one has every liked it. Ever. So not a good way to encourage hand washing.

Happily, there is a great way to wash your hands for exactly 20 seconds, and get a little spiritual exercise in at the same time. The Hail Mary prayer is an ancient prayer of the Christian faith. The first half is taken directly from scripture (Luke 1:28 and Luke 1:42). The second half was developed in the 14th century…during the Black Plague! Learn more here

So wash your hands and pray the Hail Mary. We need all the help we can get!
